Damian Wayne Is Actually in the Batman Beyond Comic

Turns out, it makes a whole lot of sense if you think about it. Batman Beyond is set 20 years in the future (when Bruce is too old to be Batman anymore) and Damian Wayne is about 13 years old (while Bruce is still in his prime), putting Damian at about 33 during Batman Beyond. Let’s talk about what’s happening in the Batman Beyond comic. Spoilers ahead!

Dan Jurgensen began writing Batman Beyond in 2015 and seems to still be going strong. “Under Dan Jurgens's pen as a writer, Damian has been the head of the League of Assassins, although he has also been working with Batman to mitigate the impact of the League on the rest of the world,” according to an article by comicbook.com. “In spite of what appeared to be a very disciplined organization, though, the corrupt scientist Zeh-Ro managed to take over the League of Assassins and oust Damian… it has given way to a new status quo for Damian Wayne. He is now, fully and officially, part of the Batman Family again, fighting alongside Dick Grayson and his daughter Batwoman, as well as Terry McGinnis (the current Batman), as the heroes, under the stewardship of Bruce Wayne, aim to prevent Zeh-Ro's plan from causing death on a colossal scale.”

Damian Wayne was hinted at back in issue #43 where McGinnis, after reclaiming his memories, took on Goliath, Damian’s Man-Bat pet, introduced in the 2015 Convergence event, and then in issue #44 Damian was rescued by McGinnis and brought back to the Bat-Family after being dethroned from the League of Assassins, as mentioned above.

Though, in most recent Batman Beyond issue (#45), to paraphrase the DC comic's website: Damian and McGinnis join forces to stop Mr. Zero and his radical faction from turning neo-Gotham into “an ice-covered hellscape” and Damian’s going to have to get over his thoughts about the “pretender” that is McGinnis if they duo is going to have a chance at saving Gotham. Apparently, Damian is just as stubborn as ever and is going to be causing problems for McGinnis and likely the rest of the Batman Family, too.

But what do you guys think? How do you feel about Damian Wayne being in the current Batman Beyond run? Do you like it, dislike it, feel ambivalent, or apathetic? Let us know in the comments below!
