The post-credit scenes of Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) left the door wide open for a sequel as another familiar Sonic character makes a cameo, and according to reports, it seems like there are more on the way.
ComicBook shares that actor Jason Momoa has been approached by Paramount Pictures with an offer for him to voice Knuckles the Echidna in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022). Knuckles, an ally of Sonic, is known for his serious-yet-gullible mannerism, and with the intentions of staying true to character, lead Paramount to seek out Momoa. Knuckles is set up to become a major player in the video game movie's extension, and if Momoa decides to sign on, he will join actor Ben Schwartz as he reprises his voice role as the speedy blue hedgehog.
"I know that the sequel's happening, and they're gonna start filming soon," Schwartz confirms, "but because I'm the voice behind a speaker, I don't know any exact dates or anything like that. But I'm excited, I read the script and it's awesome."
As of now, it's up to Momoa to either accept the offer from the studio or to decline the proposal. Inferring from Schwartz's comment, it's currently undisclosed when Sonic will begin its production, though The Illuminerdi claims that filming will begin in May. Paramount nor Momoa have spoken up on the casting just yet, and regardless of who may voice the Red Echidna, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 speeds into theaters on April 8, 2022.
