New Marvel's Avengers Game Trailer

For those who have followed Square Enix's work on the new Marvel’s Avengers game, there has been a freshly-released trailer titled “The MODOK Threat” which incites incredible joy for fans of the Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing.

It seems that George "MODOK" Tarleton and AIM - Advanced Idea Mechanics - are going to be primary antagonists of the game; which is an exciting turn of events being that MODOK is often a bench-warming villain to all-stars like Doctor Doom and Thanos. According to the new trailer, we follow the Kamala Khan as Ms. Marvel as she attempts to reunite the Avengers in order to stop AIM from ridding the world of all super-powered people. MODOK himself mentions at the trailer’s end, “I will rid the Earth of superpowers, even if it has to end with me!”

Other reveals in the trailer include some cinematic footage of the game’s story and who's who on the Avengers team: Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Black Widow, who appears to have a bit of a rough time reassembling after their initial downfall. While the event that disbanded the Avengers is left vague it was mentioned that AIM is trying to “fix the damage the Avengers caused all those years ago.” Mysterious.

The trailer briefly shows a third-person view of Kamala going down a slope, showing off that the game is “an epic, third-person, action-adventure game that combines an original, cinematic story with single-player and co-operative gameplay,” to quote from the Square Enix website and the last few seconds of the trailer show off alternate Avengers costumes which abound in this game from the pre-order bonus to skill trees to microtransactions.

The game is set to release on September 4, 2020, and it’ll be a new experience to play as the Avengers from a perspective outside of top-down via the Ultimate Alliance series and outside of a fighting game genre such as Marvel Vs Capcom. Skepticism on whether the game will be good or not permeates in discussions about the game, but optimistically, it’ll be as interesting, well written, and play as beautifully as Insomniac’s take on Spider-Man for the PS4. The MODOK Threat trailer is available to watch on Square Enix and Marvel’s websites.
